A very rare and important Edo Period Hizen Nanban tsuba, this tsuba is made with 2 different layers then perfectly fitted into a dished plate style tsuba. It is a full true 3-D tsuba..I have never seen anything like it for its time of manufacture it is a true metal workers masterpeice!! The bottom plate is dished then the waves and water dragon are fully cut and inlayed over the top and inset on to the mimi, you can not see the edges!! These tsuba are rare as a copy of the rapier but this one is over the top!!
